Featured Olympian, Foldi Imre:
(b. 5/8/1938, Hungary, d. )First Hungarian Olympic Weightlifting Champion!
Foldi competed in a record 5 Olympics and medalled in three, finally taking Gold in 1972, and Silver 1964 and 1968. He started his career in the Hungarian championships in 1957 and won Silver. In 1959 in the world and European championships he took bronze. Though he lifted the same weight as Iranian Muhammad Nassiri, he lost the Gold in '68 because he was 300 grams heavier than his competitor. He got his revenge the following Olympics taking the Gold and winning handily over the very same Nassiri. In the 13 World Championships in which he competed, he would go on to win an incredible 16 Gold, 16 Silver, and 7 Bronze medals. He was also 13 - time individual Hungarian champion.
